Meet the Wood's Homes Board Members

Kim Hubick

Chair of the Board
Questor Technologies

As an accounting professional with a lot of years behind me in roles associated with accounting and finance, including volunteer roles with oil and gas accounting and strategic planning forums, I have always been interested in using my learnings to assist organizations who might benefit from same. I am interested in some small way, in making a difference in the world. I am also very interested in learning more about the world around me and the opportunities and challenges that others in different parts of society may face. When I was asked to join the Finance Committee of Wood's Homes, it took no time to say yes to the opportunity and 7 years later, I still find every part of the organization stimulating in every way and anticipate I will continue to be engaged for years to come.

Scott Doupe

Past Chair of the Board
Partner, Conroy Ross Partners, Ltd.

I found myself at Wood's Homes after a friend requested I join the Human Resources Committee. I had the pleasure of meeting CEO Jane Matheson at that meeting, along with some Board members and I was hooked. It's been 12 years and counting and I feel honoured to be a part of an organization that is making such a difference in the lives of so many vulnerable people in our community.

Heather Heasman

Community Volunteer

I was asked to join the Risk Management Committee by a client who happened to be Chair of the Wood's Homes Board at the time. I'll never forget my first tour of the place - I've been hooked ever since.

My concept is this:

Carla Robinson

Executive/Leadership Coach and Consultant
LCR & Associates Inc.

I was asked to join by another Board member and joined in 2001. I am honoured to be a member, and to have twice served as Chair. Over the years, I have enjoyed my association with the Board members and staff and all they have taught me. They never cease to amaze me in the work they do. I have also been fortunate to have met some of the youth over the years and appreciate the hard work they are doing in increasing their awareness and making positive forward-thinking decisions about their future.

Terry Cotton

Past Chair, Wood’s Homes Foundation
TD Bank (Retired)

I learned of Wood's Homes through friends. So shortly after retiring I had an opportunity to give back...15 years on I continue to volunteer for a most unique children's mental health centre. Acclaimed by its peers to be an exceptional place for children and families.

John Stankiewicz

Corporate Director & Community Volunteer

Two decades ago a Board Director introduced me to Wood’s and I was asked to join the Finance Committee and the Board. I was hooked from the outset and to this day I am energized by and fully engaged in this outstanding organization and its drive to help children, youth and their families.

Dr. Peggy Rodway

Professor Emerita of Social Work
University of Calgary

At one time, I was the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work liaison. My job was to find practicum placements - good learning opportunities - for the students. When they came back to me, I would always hear their glowing reviews about the staff and care at Wood’s Homes. Because I had students in mental health, I met Jane Matheson (CEO) and our friendship has only grown stronger over the past 30 years. I have always heard such positive things about Wood’s, from social workers to psychologists. I am proud to be a longtime Board member.

Dr. John Pearce

Consultant, Calgary Child and Family Services

Wood's Homes fulfills the most important function of any society - the promotion of children's well-being. Wood's Homes has an honourable and proven tradition of helping children, especially those from disadvantaged environments, to maximize their potential. It's an honour to play a part in this overarching goal as a member of the Board of Directors.

Eric Axford

Executive VP – Business
Suncor Energy

I came to volunteer for Wood’s Homes the old-fashioned way – word of mouth. I heard from another Board member what a meaningful mission and great team Wood’s Homes had in place to genuinely help kids in need. I was not even living in Calgary at the time but the seed was planted and when I did eventually move back here a few years later it led me to explore volunteer possibilities and here I am. Very inspiring community work where I use the other side of my normally ‘business-oriented’ brain.

David Arthur

Partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP Calgary

I was looking for a way to give back to the community in a meaningful way. A friend of mine was a Board member at Wood’s Homes and she described the great work that Wood’s does with children and families. The organization sounded outstanding and I wanted to be a part of helping them. Since joining, I have come to the realization that Wood’s is a truly outstanding organization and significantly improves the lives of many people in many communities. I am very proud to serve on the Board.

Terry Schmaltz

Owner, Business Planning & Process Specialists
Community Volunteer

I was introduced to Wood’s Homes through a wonderful presentation by Dr. Jane Matheson at our Breakfast Club and subsequently offered to sponsor some funding toward a replacement Outreach Van through our corporate Employee Volunteer Charitable Giving program. I soon learned about the dedicated staff and positive impacts they were making with their dozens of innovative programs.

Dan Dunlop

Regulatory Advisor, Encana

I was involved with the United Way campaign at ATCO Pipelines and we heard from a speaker involved with Wood’s Homes. I was inspired by the commitment and need for the work Wood’s does - to improve the lives and futures for children and their families. Wood’s commitment not to “give up” on those who need help, was why I asked how I could help.

Barbara Murray

Community Volunteer

I was invited to join the Board by a friend from Rotary. When I looked into what they do I was convinced it would be a very good use of my volunteer time as they are providing a much needed service in a professional and compassionate manner. I have become more convinced every year that I have been involved, that I made the right decision.

Lisa Fleck

Community Volunteer

I learned about Wood's through my friend, a fellow Board member. I was amazed by the wonderful stories and the positive impact they've had on so many lives. I wanted to get involved and help out any way I could.

Collin Harris

Detective, Calgary Police Service

I was approached by an associate who asked if I would be interested in volunteering on the Board of Wood's Homes. I knew of Wood's and the work they did, and thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to work with such a worthwhile organization with passionate and dedicated members serving their clients. I believe in providing the tools for kids to learn and grow and achieve their goals and take responsibility to make positive changes in their lives. I have been on the Board for 2 years and it has been very rewarding and a pleasure to be a part of.
